How to Read These Metrics

Price × Open Interest

CombinationMeaning
Price up + OI upNew longs entering; the trend has capital behind it
Price up + OI downDriven by short covering; sustainability is questionable
Price down + OI upNew shorts entering
Price down + OI downLongs stopping out; deleveraging

Funding rate + long/short ratio A clearly positive rate together with an elevated long/short ratio means longs are crowded and holding costs are high, which invites a long squeeze. The reverse applies too.

Taker buy/sell volume The long/short ratio reflects account counts, while taker volume reflects where the money actually is. When they diverge, trust the money.

Liquidation records Clustered liquidations are often a short-term bottom/top signal — market structure only cleans up after leverage has been flushed.

Example Conversation

You: Analyze the ETH setup — how do long/short dynamics look

AI: [Price] eth_usdt 3,240, 24h +2.8%, mark price 3,239
[Positions] Market-wide OI 4.21B USD, 24h +6.2% — price up with OI up, new longs entering
[Sentiment] Long/short ratio 1.34 (long-leaning); Fear & Greed 68 (greed)
[Flow] 24h taker buy/sell = 1.12, buyers slightly ahead
[Cost] Funding rate +0.021%/8h, roughly 23% annualized — long holding cost is already high
[Liquidations] Shorts made up 71% of liquidations over 24h, with a cluster around 3,180
[Conclusion] The rally is driven by new longs, but funding and the long/short ratio are rising
together, so positioning is crowded. 3,180 is the recent dividing line; a break
below could trigger cascading long stop-outs.

Data Source Notes

  • XT's price, klines, order book, and funding rate are labeled "XT market data"
  • Open interest, long/short ratio, taker volume, liquidations, sentiment indices, and coin profiles are labeled "TradeKit aggregated public data"

The two categories differ in update frequency and coverage, so do not mix them in precise calculations. Aggregated data is delayed and is not suitable for high-frequency or arbitrage decisions.
